Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian are Bringing Back Velour Tracksuits

Old trends have been stealing the spotlight lately. It wasn’t too long ago when we wrote about crocs being back on trend. Now, we are discussing another almost extinct trend that suddenly resurfaced again for 2020 – velour tracksuits. Remember those Juicy Couture tracksuits? Yes, those matching pairs that were often brightly colored and of course, with bedazzled Juicy decors.

Juicy Couture tracksuits weren’t really the chicest trend but hey, they were super comfortable. No wonder it was the choice travel suit of many. But that was back in the early 2000s, of course, when celebrities like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears ruled the headlines. These two were almost synonymous to the velour tracksuit trend. In fact, if you Google ‘velour tracksuit’, you are most likely to find Paris and Britney on the first pages.

While the velour tracksuit trend pretty much ruled the streetwear scene in the early 2000s, it died down after a couple of years. And when the trend subsided, it was shucked all the way to the back of the closet. People forgot all about the trend and some were even appalled that they were ever obsessed with the once-popular tracksuit.

It wasn’t until fairly recently when people started to bring the velours back out again. Maybe it’s the uneasiness of 2020 that is forcing everyone to revisit past decades and just crawl back into familiar trends. Or maybe it’s because we are in quarantine and just want to live in loungewear.

Even celebrities are embracing the resurfaced trend and it’s none other than Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian who are leading the trend. The BFFs, who are icons of the early 2000s era, reunited for a surprising collaboration that got their fans a little nostalgic for the past. Beauty mogul Kardashian released her new SKIMS collection, which featured some velour pieces that were so 2000! Naturally, what better way to promote the new collection by enlisting Paris, who was the biggest star of that decade. Kim is a marketing genius, of course, and her collab with Paris successfully upped the cool factor of velour tracksuits again.

Thanks to quarantine and the rising anxiety levels of pretty much everyone in the world, it’s not very hard to convince the public that velour tracksuits are worth the hype again. We all just want to feel comfortable right now and velour tracksuits are like a warm hug. If you’ve been spending a lot of time at home, then you probably want to get your hands on these on-trend quarantine staple. You can also wear them outside but please do without the bedazzled juicy bottoms and go for something that doesn’t look so outdated.
