The Do's and Dont's of Wearing Streetwear

Streetwear is currently dominating the fashion world. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you must have already noticed that pretty much everyone is obsessed with the streetwear trend. Celebrities, bloggers and fashion lovers have all been rocking streetwear fashion for the past couple of years. Whether you like it or not, the trend is here to stay!

While this look is super popular, we admit that it can be a little intimidating. If you are not used to dressing in streetwear, then it can be a challenge at first. There’s a certain science to looking cool in streetwear garb. Here are some do’s and don’t of wearing streetwear fashion:

Do’s

Value comfort

Comfort should be a priority, regardless of whatever trend or look you are wearing. If you have comfortable clothes on, your confidence level is boosted tenfold. If your clothes don’t feel comfortable, you most likely will feel self-conscious, itchy or even irritated. An easy way to ensure comfort is by choosing pieces that are made of premium fabric that feels good on the skin.

Look put together

While streetwear is casual, it still has to look cohesive. The best kinds of street looks are those that are put together thoughtfully. Choose pieces that complement each other so that your outfit will look stylish and coordinated. It is best to wear colors that do not clash and will work well together. Even if you are wearing pieces that are bold, with over-the-top details, they shouldn’t look like random outfits that you threw on. Don’t make everything be too uniform, though, or you might look too boring.

Splurge on shoes

According to the rules of streetwear, shoes are the most important part of your outfit. If you want to look fly, start with a cool pair of kicks. Your shoes can add major style points to your look. When you are wearing the freshest pair of Yeezys or those chunky Balenciaga sneakers, they can up the cool factor of even the most basic clothes.

Dont’s

Don’t wear too many brand logos

Logo graphics are one of the best statement looks in streetwear fashion. A shirt with a big logo on the front or back is pretty much standard streetwear look that will always work. However, if your joggers, beanie and bag are also decorated with graphic brand logos, you might end up looking like an eyesore. Don’t get too excited with flexing your favorite brands all together. Choose just one item with a bold logo and tone down your other pieces.

Keep it loose, not baggy

The baggy look may have been the “It” look of the 90s when streetwear started but that fit is now outdated. Pants that are too baggy can make you look dishevelled and messy. Think loose, not baggy. Loose pants will still be cool and street, while keeping you more modern and a little more stylish. If you want to be a little more luxe, go for skinnier silhouettes, which have become a hot trend for the past years. The baggy vs. skinny debate hasn’t really been settled yet because both fits are still relevant and cool to this day!

Getting comfortable with a trend or look can be trial and error. Don't be afraid to make some fashion faux pas from time to time but learn from them to improve your streetwear game. Read up on our blog for more streetwear fashion tips!
